SPECIAL FNWACCB ANNOUNCEMENTS

First Nations Wellness/Addictions Counsellor Certification Board

Changes to Recertification Requirements

RECERTIFICATION: CHANGES TO REQUIRED HOURS

Based on stakeholders feedback indicating that the 60 hours of professional development required for FNWACCB recertification created a barrier for many applicants without the opportunity to obtain the necessary training, the Board of the First Nations Wellness/Addictions Counsellor Certification Board has revised the number of hours of professional development in addiction-related topics and reduced it to 40 hours, applicable from September 2010.

RECERTIFICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Certification/recertification expires 2 years from the date of initial certification or latest recertification.
  2. A renewal notice for recertification will be posted to the applicant 120 days prior to the certification expiry date.
  3. Review of recertification applications will proceed once all required documents and fees have been received and a reply will be sent 15 working days after date of review.
